And Now, for Another Perspective on Global Warming...

Darlene and Chris, two Cville locals, have a wonderful food blog ("Eat Air") that makes vegan cooking look mighty easy and delicious. Their normal stock-in-trade is recipes. A few days ago, they posted on a slightly bigger topic -- global warming. Makes for an interesting, and provocative, read.

Going vegan to reduce greenhouse emissions? That's quite an interesting take! (Considering that the production of livestock is the leading producer of methane - google "livestock's long shadow").

Now, I like meat the way most people like cars - I won't give it up entirely. But what if people started riding highly fuel efficient motorcycles and scooters? That would reduce emissions and help reduce traffic congestion! (Seach Yahoo! News for Piaggio scooter study.)

I'm not saying everyone should give up cars or meat entirely. Instead, we should all look at compromising and exploring the many ways we can contribute to the greater solutions as we are able.

Good points, Chris. When I was in grad school I didn't own a car -- got around just fine on my little motor scooter. I think that thing got 60-70 mpg, if memory serves me correctly. Plus -- never had a problem finding a parking space! I've actually been thinking about getting another scooter recently....
