Advocates of Single Payer health care, like myself, are often portrayed as wild-eyed idealists (when in reality, there's really nothing that radical about a Single Payer system -- click here to find out more). One could hardly call Tim Garson a wild-eyed idealist. He's a highly-respected pediatric cardiologist who also happens to serve as Executive Vice President and Provost of the University of Virginia. This past Sunday, the Daily Progress ran a profile on Dr. Garson in which he makes a compelling case for a number of reforms in our health care system, including the institution of a Single Payer system. Surely the voice of sanity. There is the odd eccentric brit that is critical of NHS, but usually for ideological reasons rather than based on any evidential reason such as health outcomes. How refreshing.
