Lindsay Shoop, a member of the victorious U.S. Women's Rowing team in this summer's Beijing Olympics, is the first Charlottesville native ever to win an Olympic gold medal. This Friday, Oct. 10, we are having a ceremony at Burnley-Moran Elementary School (her alma mater) to honor her accomplishments by proclaiming "Lindsay Shoop Day" in the City of Charlottesville. I'm sure the kids at Burnley-Moran will be excited to have an Olympic gold medalist in their midst, and I'm excited because I will be presenting Lindsay my first "Key to the City" since becoming Mayor. The ceremony starts at 10:30am and is open to the public.
Being a City Councilor or Mayor is largely a thankless job, but there are some fun moments. Like this.
